Oscar’s Mexican Seafood is one of my favorite places for fish tacos, and since my last post, they’ve opened two additional locations in Pacific Beach and Hillcrest. S mentioned recently that he wanted to try it again, so we went to Hillcrest to check it out.
The store is quite small, and with a pretty long line when we went around lunch time on Saturday. The line was moving really slowly – it seemed like the guy taking orders was pretty overwhelmed since he was also responsible for any “fruit water” (i.e. horchata or jamaica) drinks. Luckily, we were able to score seating right after we ordered.
We ordered several tacos, but because of the toppings they all ended up looking, well, pretty much the same. I had the Taco Especial ($4.65), while S had the Battered Fish ($1.99) and Grilled Octopus ($4.75).
The Taco Especial included shrimp, smoked fish, and octopus (I believe you can also choose scallops but I forgot to do so). I really love their smoked fish, which is savory but not overly salty, and it was downright delicious when paired with the juicy shrimp and octopus. S enjoyed his tacos, but said that South Beach Bar & Grill still makes his favorite battered fish taco.
Overall, we enjoyed our light lunch at Oscar’s. I’m glad that they’ve expanded and hope that they’ll continue to do well! Their fish tacos remains one of my favorites in San Diego, and we will definitely return for more in the future.
